PRP Treatment

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment for hair is a natural therapy that involves using a patient’s own blood to stimulate hair growth. PRP contains concentrated platelets, which are rich in growth factors that can potentially promote hair regrowth and improve hair thickness and quality.

Steps of PRP Treatment

The PRP treatment process typically involves the following steps

Step 1: Blood Extraction: A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient, usually from the arm, similar to a routine blood test.

Step 2: Centrifugation: The drawn blood is then placed in a centrifuge machine, which spins rapidly to separate the components of the blood. This process separates the platelet-rich plasma from other blood components, such as red blood cells.

Step 3: PRP Preparation: After centrifugation, the platelet-rich plasma is collected and prepared for injection. It is concentrated and has a higher platelet count than what is typically found in blood.

Step 4: Scalp Preparation: Before injecting PRP, the scalp is cleaned and numbed to minimise discomfort during the treatment.

Step 5: PRP Injection: The prepared PRP is injected into the areas of the scalp where hair thinning or hair loss has occurred. The injections are administered using fine needles and are usually done in a grid-like pattern to ensure even coverage.

The growth factors present in the PRP are believed to stimulate the hair follicles, promote new blood vessel formation, and encourage the production of collagen and other proteins that support hair growth. By revitalising dormant hair follicles, PRP treatment aims to promote hair regrowth and improve hair density.

Side Effects of PRP for Hair Loss

PRP therapy involves injecting your own blood into your scalp, so the risk of an allergic reaction is much lower than with other injectable medications. Some common risks of PRP include:

  • Injury to blood vessels or nerves
  • Infection
  • Calcification at the injection points
  • Scar tissue

It’s important to note that PRP treatment for hair loss is still an evolving field, and its effectiveness may vary from person to person. The results can also depend on factors such as the underlying cause of hair loss, the extent of hair loss, and the individual’s response to the treatment. We at Skin Sense Aesthetic Clinic, New Delhi, provide PRP treatment to our patients in a very cost-effective manner.
